Five days after Hurricane Melissa hit Jamaica's western region with record force, people in damaged neighborhoods in coastal zones are persistently anticipating for assistance.
Multiple routes are blocked by debris and people are isolated with little food, lacking utilities, and unknown restoration dates.
The government said on recently that at least 28 people in Jamaica have lost their lives following the hurricane's impact as a devastating Category 5 hurricane with nearly 300 km/h wind speeds.
This marks approximately half again as many in the death toll overnight, and figures may increase as authorities make progress into previously inaccessible areas in the coming days.
This particular parish is thought to contain the second-most instances of unconfirmed deaths, behind the southeastern parish to the eastern sector. The hurricane's center hit somewhere between the two neighbouring parishes. Within that parish an estimated 90% of homes have been destroyed.
'The future remains uncertain', referred to the scene as ''absolute ruin'.
A long stretch of road traveling westward toward Westmoreland Parish winds through a field of destroyed forestry – stacks of branches and limbs, broken and contorted, blanketing the landscape for miles.

About 400,000 people in Jamaica were without power as of Friday , and an untold number more have lost telephone and internet connectivity, isolated from external contact.
The transportation minister stated that more than 200 StarLink devices have been installed nationwide to assist with online connectivity.
He addressed criticism the authorities have faced for its reaction, saying there were "various components" causing slowdowns.
"Refuelling, Areas for Landing, Accessibility and Timing/Visibility," representatives explained.
The country's leader stressed that the "initial priority is on cleaning rubble, restoring essential services", as well as distributing nourishment and healthcare items.
Among a minor neighborhood adjacent to the coastal town, one affected individual leaned on damaged cement. In the background, the fishing village he has called home for all his years has been demolished, along with his livelihood.
"Everyone here is ruined," he said. Maritime facilities were wrecked and is now "flat"
"The hurricane destroyed everything," he said, encompassing his maritime equipment, which he characterizes as "completely destroyed"
The people in these areas are filled with pride and resilience, phrases commonly used on community broadcasts and visible through their optimism in the challenging situations.
Seated under the facade of a heavily ruined edifice, Roy Perry said he has lost everything, but "we have to just keep the faith and positive outlook continues"
"Must continue. Will not surrender," he said.
This reflects identical sentiment demonstrated by an agricultural worker, located in his transport offering remaining produce – his final agricultural products that was protected from the hurricane.
Of his farm, he said: "It's all wrecked. Total ruin resulted" But he immediately added: "We need to appreciate being alive"
At the same time, international assistance is beginning to arrive into Jamaica.
The US State Department stated that its crisis response group had arrived. Nations such as Britain have also committed substantial financial assistance and emergency supplies.
