Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Defeat

Arne Slot conceded that it's expected for doubts to be asked about his position after a further convincing loss against the Dutch champions.

The Reds endured their ninth defeat in twelve matches, marking the team's poorest run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got a lot of backing from the top,” Slot remarked.

“It would be great to reverse this trend and earn three points obviously but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it is normal that questions are asked.”

He added, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to expand on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:

“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they back me.”

He further stated, “Through standard discussions I feel the confidence. But I've not talked to them since this defeat so far so let’s see.”

Recurring Failings and Squad Response

The manager highlighted recurring failings from his squad in their European defeat, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his view of the club’s predicament.

“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones stated.

“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the words.”

He added, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club for years.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a spell of this nature with results this poor.”

He stated, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”

“We will attempt to help the side back to the top, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the top club in the world.”

“However currently, things are bad and it must improve.”
