Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant uplift to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
