Lawrence has expressed that she no longer feels suitable to comment publicly against the Trump administration, fearing it could exacerbate unhelpful debate and increase separation within the nation.
During a discussion, she reflected, “When Trump was first in office, I believed I was acting frantically without clear direction. But as we’ve learned, over multiple voting cycles, celebrities fail to influence whatsoever on voter decisions.”
The actor went on, “Why continue? I’m just voicing my thoughts on something that’s going to add fuel to a fire tearing the country apart.”
Jennifer Lawrence has spoken candidly about backing conservative and liberal candidates over the years. Growing up with Republican parents in Kentucky, she voted for the Republican nominee in the 2008 election before joining the Democratic party and explaining she recognized during the Obama era that supporting the GOP was voting against her personal freedoms as a female citizen.
Earlier in her career, she commented that Trump winning the presidency could represent “the end of the world” and endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 election. In the latest campaign, she lent her support to Kamala Harris, “because I believe she’s a strong contender and I know that she will make every effort to protect reproductive rights.”
Lawrence was aligned with most of Hollywood in her disapproval of the former president as a candidate for re-election, but the minimal impact celebrities have over the public choices was underscored by the outcome.
“Another four years seems distinct,” said Lawrence regarding his administration. “Because he said what he was going to do. We were aware of his actions for his first term. He was very clear. And voters made that decision.”
Jennifer Lawrence is currently promoting her new film, the filmmaker’s project in which she plays a young mom who struggles with her mental health in rural Montana. During a interview session for the project in Venice, Lawrence spoke about the conflict in Gaza: “I feel fear. It’s horrifying. What’s occurring is equivalent to a atrocity and it’s awful.”
She continued by saying that she was saddened by “the disrespect in the conversations of the political landscape currently and how that is going to be accepted to the children today. It’s going to be typical to them that elected officials deceive.”
Lawrence attempted to refocus anger about the issue to leaders rather than celebrities. “Stay focused on those accountable,” she advised, which was interpreted as a reference to the declaration supported by more than 4,000 Hollywood professionals to refuse engagement with certain cultural organizations.
The actor, who earned critical acclaim at a young age for her performance in her breakout movie, is generating Oscar buzz for her portrayal in her latest project. While Lynne Ramsay has rejected the narrative being understood as one of maternal mental health issues and psychosis, she shared that she connected with aspects of her film narrative after the birth of her second son, not long after production wrapped.
“There was concern for my son,” she explained, “just picturing every worst-case scenario, and then second-guessing everything that I was attempting. I was seeing a therapist, but I started taking a drug called that medicine and I continued it for 14 days and it made a difference.”
Lawrence also discussed regarding the freeing requirement of filming without clothes in the movie while she was expecting and couldn’t work out.
“It feels nice,” she commented, of being forced to set aside self-consciousness. “I mean, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, What technically are the differences between me and a prostitute? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
