More than two weeks after the tragic deaths of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues are still paying respects to the couple.
Writing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who was featured in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, mentioned he only now felt ready to share openly about his profound loss.
"Sufficient time has passed that I can now put my grief into words," posted Elwes, adding that his initial encounter with Reiner made him fall in love. "When we commenced sharing more moments together I understood this was someone I wanted in my life."
The actor shared never-before-seen clips from the film, adding that he cannot recall "any day without mirth".
"The film is about affection, allegiance and giving. Principles that Rob valued immensely. Which is among the many reasons he was the perfect person to helm it," Elwes wrote.
He additionally honored Michele Reiner, noting: "Asserting that they were a formidable pair would be an oversimplification. My heart still pangs every time I remember you." He finished with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
In a distinct essay, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"Right away, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was hilarious and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese highlighted Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the main character.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a expert at comedy, he worked wonderfully with his co-stars, and he understood the human predicament of his character," Scorsese wrote.
Recently, a Los Angeles judge ruled to bar the disclosure of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, after an appeal from the local authorities.
A court order put a security hold on the investigation to limit the public release of "all case details, evidence and photographs" pertaining to the probe.
The coroner's office had previously confirmed their deaths were the outcome of murder, with a official listing listing the cause as "wounds from an edged weapon".
