Apex Legends' Specialized Traversal Techniques Become Widely Accessible During This Update

The game developers have an exciting surprise in store for the popular battle royale players, arriving just in time for the holidays. Fans of this game's super-slick traversal will be pleased to learn that an innovative traversal feature is being implemented when the Amped season launches on November 4th.

Unveiling The Mantle Boost

Named "Momentum Boosting" by Respawn, this ability provides gamers a burst of propulsion when climbing over ledges and walls. As explained lead battle royale designer the design lead, Mantle Boosting was previously existed of the game for quite a while, usually referred to as "mantle jumping." However it's challenging for the average player, and is mainly used by pro gamers in Ranked Mode or tournaments. In this update, Respawn is making it easier for players of all skill levels to execute these tricky speed-boosts.

"Mantle Boosts have been in Apex for a while, but executing it requires skill to pull off and a player might not realize it's possible without external guides," the designer states. "Now including a Mantle Boost indicator so players can clearly identify when and how to activate the fast-paced traversal skill, opening up the feature and adding new ways to compete for more players."

Why Make It Accessible

What's the reason for making a once niche movement quirk accessible to everyone? Lead Legend designer the development lead says developers wants gamers to feel powerful — even those who are inexperienced.

"Our community is doing advanced techniques like super-gliding and tap-strafes, and we looked around at other games, looked at what the community execute, and we said, 'What if we provide some of this power to a broader audience?'" the designer clarifies. "Since currently, certain advanced [movement] mechanics are somewhat awkward to use — it requires to change controls and hit one-frame windows. We proposed, 'How about we create a polished implementation?'"

Season 27 Emphasis on Mobility

Movement is primarily the central theme in Season 27, with Legends Horizon, the defensive specialist, and the aerial combatant receiving enhancements to help keep them in motion. Recovery time on Horizon's Gravity Lift has been decreased, and this skill will propel users upward much quicker than it used to. Her defensive walls feature overhead protection and the ability to provide movement bonuses to allies in range. But it's the high-flying this Legend who's getting the most attention this season, with multiple tweaks implemented to make her more potent, quicker, and more lethal.

"In my opinion many agree that her moment is here," states Legend designer the designer. "Certainly she was top-tier in the past, but due to the addition of new Legends, mobility perks, and redeployment tools, it felt like she's not very relevant in current the game. This presented an ideal chance for us to revisit multiple elements [of her kit] and sort of bring her back to former prominence."

Valkyrie's Upgrades

To restore Valkyrie's relevance in current strategies, the developer notes the team assessed each of her abilities and implemented significant modifications. Her VTOL Jets received improvements, boosting velocity while airborne, and the jets themselves regenerates much quicker, allowing the player to spend more time aloft. She can no longer take damage from her ultimate ability, which has also been upgraded to tag opponents who take damage from it. Her squad redeploy skill — which lifts teammates into the air for repositioning or escape — now takes reduced delay to activate. Additionally, she gains recently added perk choices that players can choose to conserve resources, widen the area of her rockets, or accelerate her ultimate takeoff time.

"Valkyrie's equipment fulfills the pilot experience," he comments.

Map Changes

Even the game's only floating arena, this location, receives a movement-friendly facelift, with major changes that opens up choke points and renders securing elevated positions more manageable. Respawn state the game this update focuses on providing gamers the tools required to keep up with matches.

"Really, we were looking at the game's fundamental nature as a fast-paced FPS," explains principal designer Josh Mohan.

The battle royale the Amped season launches Nov. 4 at the specified times.
