Analysts Spot Russian Fear Campaign Against Tomahawk Use

Moscow is implementing a strategic manipulation initiative of warnings to discourage the United States from delivering Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukrainian forces, according to military analysts. A senior Russian lawmaker declared: “We understand these missiles very well, how they fly, methods to intercept them, we tested against them in the Syrian conflict, so it presents no surprises. Only those who supply them and those who use them will encounter difficulties … We will find ways to hurt those who oppose our interests.”

Ukraine's Military Push Progress

Kyiv's troops were causing significant casualties in a counteroffensive in eastern Donetsk region, the central battlefield, the Ukrainian president stated on Wednesday. Kyiv's report, derived from a communication with his chief of defense, contradicted Moscow's remarks to senior Russian officers a day earlier in which he asserted the invading army maintained the strategic initiative in all frontline sectors.

Based on evaluation dated early October, defense researchers said Russia was incurring heavy casualty rates, mainly because of drone strikes by Ukraine, in exchange for limited tactical advances. Defending units, Zelenskyy said, were “protecting our positions along various sectors”, referring specifically to Kupiansk, a heavily damaged city in Ukraine's northeast under heavy Russian assaults for months.

Regional Developments

Administrative officials in the Kherson area of the Kherson oblast said military strikes on Wednesday caused three deaths in and around the regional capital of the same name. The governor of northern Sumy, on the northern frontier with Russia, said three individuals were killed in unmanned aerial strikes in various areas. Ukraine's air force said it successfully countered the majority of Russian strike and decoy drones through the evening.

A Russian attack seriously damaged a Ukrainian energy facility, officials reported on Wednesday. Facility personnel were harmed during the strike, as reported by power utility representatives. They provided no further information, including the facility's position, but government officials said attacks targeted energy infrastructure in northern Ukraine, the Kherson area and south-eastern Dnipropetrovsk regions.

Humanitarian Consequences

In the north-eastern Sumy town of the Shostka area, hit hard by the offensive operations against the electrical grid, authorities have established temporary shelters where people can warm up, access hot drinks, power electronic devices and obtain emotional assistance, based on information from administrative leader.

Global Reactions

Kyiv's representative to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization on midweek encouraged European allies to step up purchases of United States armaments for Ukrainian forces. “This doesn't mean we prefer American weapons over allied or alternative military systems – the issue is that we are requesting the America for weapons which EU members are unable to supply,” said the diplomatic representative.

German federal police will shortly receive authorization to neutralize UAVs, interior minister declared on midweek, after a spate of drone sightings believed to be foreign operations to spy and intimidate. Presenting proposed legislation, the official said police would be authorized “to implement advanced technological measures against UAV risks, such as electromagnetic pulses, jamming, satellite signal blocking, but also with direct interception”.

European Protection Challenges

European leader stated on Wednesday that the European Union should strengthen its defenses to respond to Russia's “hybrid warfare” in response to airspace breaches, cyber-attacks and marine communications interference. “This is not random harassment. This represents a coherent and escalating campaign,” the representative said in a speech to the European lawmakers. “Several occurrences are coincidence, but multiple, repeated, numerous – this is a deliberate and targeted hybrid threat strategy against the European Union, and European countries should answer.”

Displacement Situation

The Swiss government has extended its protection status granted to Ukrainian refugees to at least 4 March 2027. Protection status S, which allows people to leave the country as well as be employed in Switzerland, is generally limited to one year but can be renewed. “The ruling demonstrates the ongoing dangerous conditions and continuing offensive operations across significant Ukrainian territory,” said a federal announcement. “Despite international peace efforts, a enduring resolution that would permit safe return is not expected in the foreseeable future.”
