These initial charcoal drawings and paintings will then be expanded upon in the studio, with participants completing multiple abstract landscapes in acrylics to be exhibited in the village. Participants has exclusive access of the venue, which is built around an central patio and has a roof terrace with views over the countryside. The cost encompasses five days of art instruction; full board; and an outing to the local castle and other local sights.

Vegetarian Culinary in the Algarve

This Mediterranean culinary holiday, set on a riverside villa in the inland Portuguese region, is inspired by the vegetarian dishes of celebrated cooks. Guests will master the art of selection of small dishes, attend a falafel-making workshop, refine mid-morning meals such as shakshuka, and make hearty mains including spicy mushroom ragu and moussaka. The schedule includes trips to the local market and a local vineyard to sample Portuguese wines, combined with free time for walks by the Funcho River, to unwind on the terrace or swim in the infinity pool. This coastal town is the perfect setting for a maritime music retreat. Guests will be taught traditional shanties from a folk singer and vocal coach, and try their hand at writing their own. The schedule includes vocal warmups, breath control techniques, performance tips and a closing performance. The holiday is based at a rural hotel with views of the bay. Full board are provided, including a Cornish cream tea on the first day, cooked or continental breakfasts, lunches to go and three-course dinners. Traditional rum, unfortunately, is not provided. The holiday is held at a traditional complex in Vamos at the base of the Lefka Ori – 10 one- and two-bedroom cottages are set around a garden and pool (non-writing partners are welcome to share). On the last night, budding authors mark the occasion with a musical performance in the garden and a final meal.

Introduction to Beekeeping in Mid Wales

The Centre for Alternative Technology near Machynlleth runs a host of courses covering eco-living: from creating habitats to upcycling. This weekend course will help participants understand the basics of beekeeping, explore the life cycle of bees and learn about their environmental benefits. It is aimed at produce “bee-friendly beekeepers”. The weekend is also a opportunity to relax in the centre's carefully maintained woodlands, which are habitat for polecats, otters, dormice, lesser horseshoe bats and uncommon bird species.
